Product: 50mm Flared Press-Fit Speaker Port — Aerodynamic Tuning Edition
Document reference: IM-SPK50-001-REV1
Manufacturer: MnN Proto-Lab
Purpose
This flared speaker port is designed to press-fit into a clean 50 mm diameter cabinet cutout. The full-radius flare and smooth internal passage support efficient airflow and help reduce turbulence and audible port noise when the port is correctly sized for the enclosure and driver.
Select the correct length
Port length affects enclosure tuning frequency. Longer ports generally lower the tuning frequency, while shorter ports generally raise it. Calculate the required port geometry using suitable acoustic design software or a validated enclosure design before selecting a length. Do not select a port length by guesswork.
Before installation
- Confirm the selected length suits the enclosure design, internal clearance and target tuning.
- Confirm the enclosure has a clean 50 mm diameter cutout.
- Check clearance from the driver, bracing, wiring, damping material and cabinet walls.
- Inspect the port for cracks, distortion, blocked passages or damaged edges.
- Remove dust, loose fibres and burrs from the cutout.
Prepare the cutout
- Mark the port centre according to the enclosure design.
- Check both sides of the panel for wiring, bracing and other obstructions.
- Create a 50 mm diameter cutout using an appropriate tool and safe working method.
- Keep the cutout round, square to the panel and free from taper.
- Deburr and clean the edge without enlarging it unnecessarily.
Press-fit installation
- Align the port squarely with the cabinet cutout.
- Support the surrounding panel and press the port in evenly by hand.
- Apply force around the flange rather than pushing on one side only.
- Seat the port until the flange sits flush against the cabinet surface.
- Confirm the port is secure, straight and unobstructed.
Do not hammer the port, force it into an undersized or irregular cutout, or use the flare as a lever. If excessive force is required, remove the port and correct the cutout.
Optional permanent sealing
A correctly prepared cutout is intended to provide a secure friction fit. For demanding installations, a light continuous bead of suitable speaker-cabinet sealant or adhesive may be used. Confirm compatibility with PETG-CF and the cabinet material, and follow the sealant manufacturer’s instructions. Avoid excess material entering the airflow path.
Inspection and testing
- Check the complete enclosure for air leaks and loose components.
- Begin testing at low output.
- Listen for rattles, leaks, rubbing or unexpected port noise.
- Increase output gradually while monitoring the enclosure and driver.
- Stop testing if the port moves, distorts or produces abnormal noise.
Removal
Support the cabinet panel and pull the port straight out with a gentle, even rocking motion. Do not lever sharply against the flare or cabinet finish. A permanently sealed port may require cabinet-specific adhesive removal methods and might not be reusable.
Care
- Remove dust with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth, then dry the part.
- Keep the airflow passage clear.
- Do not use harsh solvents, abrasive tools or excessive heat.
- Replace the port if cracked, distorted or no longer securely retained.
Important limitation
This product does not determine the correct tuning for an enclosure by itself. Acoustic performance depends on the driver, net cabinet volume, port diameter, effective port length, flare geometry, placement and system power.
