Twist on. Snap to steel. Done.
Welcome to the user guide for Cable Mag™ Magnetic Cable Holders. This damage-free, heavy-duty solution organizes messy utility lines, seasonal lights, and workstation cords without staples, cable ties, or adhesive residue.
Formulated with advanced, highly cross-linked UV-stabilized 68D TPU and powered by integrated N52 Rare-Earth Neodymium magnets, Cable Mag™ is purpose-built to deliver an unyielding grip in any residential, trade, or outdoor environment.
Technical Specifications
- Housing Material: UV-stabilized 68D Thermoplastic Polyurethane (High-memory, impact-resistant)
- Magnetic Core (2–3 mm & 4–5 mm): Sealed single N52 Neodymium disc — protected from moisture, scratching, and debris
- Magnetic Core (6–7 mm): Enclosed dual-stacked N52 Neodymium discs — holds over 1.0 kg of direct pull tension on standard Colorbond® steel framing
- Environmental Rating: Waterproof and built to withstand intense outdoor thermal cycles, rain, and scorching UV radiation
How to Fit: The "Quick Twist" Method
Cable Mag™ features a unique, tool-free twist-to-lock mechanism. It grips your cables tightly without applying crushing clamping forces that could damage the cable's internal wires or outer jacket.
- Insert the Cable: Locate the open slot along the side of the flexible TPU body. Slip your cable directly into the center chamber.
- The Quick Twist: Hold the cable with one hand and firmly twist the Cable Mag™ body. This rotating motion swings the two semi-rigid TPU arms into position, trapping and wrapping completely around the cable.
- Snap to Steel: Bring the magnet base close to your metal target. It will snap into place instantly.
- Clean Release: To adjust or remove, simply pull the mount straight off the surface. To remove it from the cord, twist the body back in the opposite direction to open the arms and release the cable.
Choosing the Right Size
Matching the correct Cable Mag™ size to your specific cable diameter ensures a perfect, slip-free hold:
- 2–3 mm: Perfect for micro-wires, fairy lights, seasonal icicle strands, slim USB charging leads, and thin signal cables.
- 4–5 mm: Optimized for standard USB/USB-C cables, Cat5/Cat6 Ethernet lines, HDMI leads, and moderate appliance cords.
- 6–7 mm: Engineered for heavy household cords, standard outdoor extension leads, workshop cords, and outdoor festoon lighting lines. Features dual-stacked N52 magnets for maximum hold on heavier cables.
- Variety Pack: Use if you are organizing a mixed layout across a home workshop, entertainment hub, or multi-cable office desk.
Surface Compatibility Guide
Cable Mag™ relies on clean, iron-containing metal surfaces to achieve its full holding capacity:
- ✅ Compatible: Steel gutters, Colorbond® roof profiles, structural metal beams, steel desk frames, monitor arms, workshop tool chests, heavy machinery, and embedded drywall screw heads.
- ❌ Not Compatible: Austenitic Stainless Steel (such as Grade 316 appliance covers or kitchen range hoods), aluminium, copper, glass, or timber.
Cable Routing & Spacing Guidelines
Because cables can be stiff and hold a physical "memory" of their shape, correct spacing preserves a professional appearance:
- Straight Horizontal Paths: Place one Cable Mag™ every 40–50 cm to stop heavy cords from sagging under desks.
- Vertical Drops: Space units every 50–60 cm along walls, server racks, or metal pillars.
- Corners and Bends: Place one clip 5 cm before a turn and another 5 cm after. Allow a natural, sweeping curve rather than a forced 90-degree kink.
- Strain Relief: Always position a clip within 10 cm of an outlet, plug, or device input to absorb sudden yanks and accidental tugs.
Pro-Installer Guide: Managing Cable Tension
Cables can be stiff and hold a strong "memory" of their coiled shape. Follow these techniques for a seamless, one-person installation:
1. The "Working Backwards" Method (Highly Recommended)
Never start from the middle. Always snap your first Cable Mag™ closest to the power outlet or device input first. This anchors the starting point securely. From there, move outward down the line, supporting the cable weight in your non-dominant hand while your dominant hand snaps the next clip into place.
2. Temporary Support — Eliminate the Drag
Before clicking the magnets to the steel, uncoil your entire cable and lay it flat on the floor or a nearby bench. Do not let the uninstalled cord hang freely in mid-air. Eliminating the downward drag of the trailing cord means the magnets only need to hold their immediate section.
3. Pre-Install the Clips — The "Pre-Load" Method
Twist all required Cable Mags™ onto the cable while it is still on the ground, spaced roughly every 40–50 cm. Once the cable is pre-loaded, lift the entire section up to your metal surface and snap 2–3 clips at once. This instantly distributes the weight across multiple magnets.
4. Overcome the "Spring Effect"
If a stiff cable is fighting a corner, give it a quick massage or reverse-bend to relax the internal materials before mounting. For stubborn bends, place two Cable Mags™ side by side at the apex to double the magnetic surface area.
Important Care Instructions
- Temperature Ceiling: Do not expose mounts to sustained environments exceeding 55°C (such as vehicle engine bays or unventilated car interiors in direct sunlight) to protect the N52 magnets from permanent strength loss.
- Maintenance: The fully sealed TPU skin is safe to wash. If the base picks up dust or dirt, wipe clean with Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) to restore maximum surface contact grip.
