High-Current Terminal Protection & Power Integration Kit
Manufacturer: MnN Proto-Lab
Document reference: IM-LRS600-001-REV1
Date: September 2026
Safety Before You Start
This installation involves 240V AC mains wiring. Disconnect the power supply completely before starting. Mains wiring must comply with local electrical standards, including AS/NZS 3000 where applicable. MnN Proto-Lab recommends that a licensed electrician or qualified technician performs or verifies all high-voltage connections.
1. Required Tools & Recommended Parts
- Phillips head screwdriver for Meanwell terminal screws and chassis mounting
- Wire strippers and a crimping tool suitable for the selected conductor size
- High-quality insulated crimp terminals suitable for the LRS-600 terminal block
- Heat shrink tubing for insulating the IEC socket joints
- Appropriate inline fuse and fuse holder for the AC Active (Live) conductor
- Correctly rated fuses or circuit protection for each DC output path
- Cable sized for the selected LRS-600 voltage, expected load and installation conditions
2. Output Hardware & Circuit Protection
The LRS-600 enclosure kit uses different output hardware according to the selected voltage:
- 5V, 12V & 15V: M8 high-current 100A binding posts for high-amperage DC output termination.
- 24V, 27V, 36V & 48V: Gold-plated binding posts for low-resistance, corrosion-resistant DC output connections.
Size each DC conductor and protective fuse for the selected power-supply variant, expected load, connector rating and applicable electrical standard. Do not select a fuse rating higher than the safe current capacity of the cable or connection hardware.
3. Installation
Step 1: Confirm the Kit and Plan the Wiring
- Confirm that the enclosure and output hardware match the selected LRS-600 voltage variant.
- Position the enclosure beside the LRS-600 and identify the cable paths between the IEC socket, output posts and Meanwell terminal block.
- Cut the AC input and DC output wires long enough to reach comfortably while the larger enclosure is tilted forward for access.
- Cut the Earth wire significantly longer than the Active and Neutral wires. If the assembly is pulled, the Earth must remain connected until after the other conductors detach.
- Strip each wire only as far as required by its terminal. Fit and crimp the selected terminals securely.
Step 2: Wire the IEC Socket and Output Hardware
- Connect Active, Neutral and the longer Earth wire to the correct terminals on the rear of the IEC C14 socket.
- Connect the low-voltage positive and negative conductors to the rear of the supplied voltage-specific output posts.
- For 5V, 12V and 15V kits, use appropriately sized conductors and lugs with the M8 high-current output posts.
- For 24V, 27V, 36V and 48V kits, secure the conductors to the supplied gold-plated binding posts.
- Cover exposed IEC connections with heat shrink tubing and confirm that no conductor or loose strand remains exposed.
- Fit the selected AC and DC circuit protection before continuing.
Step 3: Use the Pivot Method
- Bring the wired enclosure assembly to the open LRS-600 terminal block.
- Support the larger enclosure and tilt it forward and down for clear visibility and access to the screw terminals. Do not allow the wiring to carry the enclosure’s weight.
- Connect Active to L, Neutral to N, and the longer Earth conductor to the Earth terminal.
- Connect the positive output conductors to V+ and the negative output conductors to V-, distributing conductors across terminals as required by the installation design and Meanwell documentation.
- Tighten each terminal screw firmly, then gently pull-test every conductor. Confirm that no loose strands extend beyond the terminals.
Step 4: Mount the Enclosure
- Pivot the enclosure upward until it sits flat against the LRS-600 chassis.
- Check that the wiring folds naturally into the AC and DC chambers without crossing the internal divider.
- Align the tapered mounting holes with the existing threaded mounting points in the LRS-600 case.
- Install the supplied anchoring screws evenly. Do not over-tighten, as this may damage the tapered holes or strip the chassis threads.
- Inspect the full perimeter and confirm that no wires are trapped between the enclosure and the metal chassis.
4. Pre-Power Checklist
- The enclosure kit and output hardware match the selected LRS-600 voltage variant.
- Active, Neutral and Earth match the correct terminals on both the IEC socket and LRS-600.
- The Earth wire is longer and retains a small slack loop inside the chamber.
- V+ and V- are correctly routed to their matching output posts.
- DC conductor sizes and fuse ratings suit the selected voltage, load and terminal hardware.
- IEC socket connections are fully insulated with heat shrink.
- Terminal screws and mounting screws are secure, with no loose strands or pinched wires.
- The enclosure is seated flat and the AC and DC wiring remain in their separate chambers.
Once every check is complete, have the mains wiring verified where required before connecting the power supply to an outlet.
