Radion XR15 PAR-Max Reef Aquarium LED Shade — Instruction Manual

Dual-Layer Magnetic Reflective Shade

1. Product Compatibility

This instruction manual applies to the MnN Proto-Lab Radion XR15 PAR-Max Reef Aquarium LED Shade. It is shaped specifically for the Radion XR15 fixture and is not intended for the larger XR30.

2. Dual-Layer Construction

The PAR-Max shade combines a satin black PETG-CF exterior with a reflective white PETG-GF interior. The black outer layer controls room-facing glare and visually blends with the fixture, while the white inner layer redirects wide-angle light toward the aquarium.

Integrated high-strength magnets are fully enclosed inside the printed body for tool-free fitting and isolation from humid marine air and salt spray.

3. Before Installation

  1. Confirm that the shade is the XR15 PAR-Max model and inspect it for shipping damage.
  2. Check that all integrated magnets remain fully enclosed within the printed body.
  3. Wipe dust or salt residue from the fixture contact area and dry it completely.
  4. Confirm that cables and mounting hardware will not interfere with the shade.

4. Snap-On Installation

  1. Hold the shade with the reflective white interior facing the fixture and the open lower edge facing the aquarium.
  2. Align the contours of the shade with the XR15 fixture body.
  3. Bring the shade toward the fixture slowly and allow the integrated magnets to locate naturally.
  4. Check that every magnetic contact point is seated and the shade sits level around the fixture.
  5. Confirm clearance from the water surface, aquarium rim, mounting arm, cables and surrounding equipment.

5. Working Around the Light

Remove the shade before performing maintenance or working close to the light fixture. The aquarium-safe composites and fully sealed magnets mean that an occasional accidental drop into the water will not harm the shade, but it is still best to avoid allowing any item to fall into the aquarium unnecessarily. Place the shade on a clean surface away from the tank until the work is complete, then snap it back into position.

6. PAR Verification & Light Adjustment

Published testing for the PAR-Max construction recorded an approximate 10% average PAR increase, with the following measured comparisons:

Measurement Depth Without Shade With PAR-Max Shade
25 cm 1198 1351
40 cm 443 498
60 cm 266 274

These results are reference test figures, not a guaranteed result for every aquarium. Actual PAR depends on mounting height, spectrum, intensity, water clarity, aquascape and measurement position.

  • Measure PAR before and after installation at representative coral positions.
  • If adjustment is needed, reduce fixture intensity gradually rather than making a large immediate change.
  • Monitor SPS, LPS and soft-coral response across different depths.
  • Recheck PAR after changes to mounting height, spectrum, intensity or aquascape.

7. Removal

  1. Grip the shade evenly and pull it straight away from the fixture with controlled pressure.
  2. Do not twist sharply or lever against the light housing.
  3. Place it on a clean surface with the reflective interior and magnetic contact points protected from debris.

8. Care & Inspection

  • Clean with a wet or damp soft cloth, then dry before refitting.
  • Remove accumulated salt spray before it forms a hard deposit.
  • Do not use abrasive pads that may mark the reflective white interior or satin black exterior.
  • Periodically inspect the dual-layer body and confirm all magnets remain fully enclosed.
  • Remove the shade from service if it becomes cracked, distorted, loose, delaminated, or shows exposed magnetic material.

9. Installation Checklist

  • Correct XR15 PAR-Max model selected
  • Fixture contact area clean and dry
  • Reflective white interior facing the fixture
  • All magnets fully enclosed and seated
  • Shade level with no cable, mount, rim or water interference
  • Shade removed before working around the fixture or aquarium
  • PAR and coral response checked after installation
