Magnetic Glare Control & Light Containment Shade

1. Product Compatibility
This instruction manual applies to the MnN Proto-Lab Radion XR15 Reef Aquarium LED Shade in White PETG-GF and Satin Black PETG-CF. The shade is shaped specifically for the Radion XR15 fixture and is not intended for the larger XR30.
2. Choose the Correct Version
- White PETG-GF: Reflective white construction redirects wide-angle light toward the aquarium while containing visible light bleed through the shade walls.
- Satin Black PETG-CF: Non-reflective carbon-fibre composite blocks sideways glare and visually blends with the Radion fixture.
The white version can increase useful light delivery into the aquarium. Any change to fixture intensity should be based on PAR measurements and the needs of the livestock in the specific tank.
3. Before Installation
- Confirm that the shade is the XR15 model and inspect it for shipping damage.
- Check that the integrated magnets remain fully enclosed within the printed body.
- Wipe dust or salt residue from the fixture contact area and dry it completely.
- Confirm that cables and mounting hardware will not interfere with the shade.
4. Snap-On Installation
- Hold the shade with the open lower edge facing the aquarium and align its contours with the XR15 fixture body.
- Bring the shade toward the fixture slowly and allow the integrated magnets to locate naturally.
- Check that every magnetic contact point is seated and the shade sits level around the fixture.
- Confirm that the shade does not contact the water surface, aquarium rim, mounting arm, cables or surrounding equipment.
5. Working Around the Light
Remove the shade before performing maintenance or working close to the light fixture. The aquarium-safe composites and fully sealed magnets mean that an occasional accidental drop into the water will not harm the shade, but it is still best to avoid allowing any item to fall into the aquarium unnecessarily. Place the shade on a clean surface away from the tank until the work is complete, then snap it back into position.
6. Light Setup After Installation
- Black version: Primarily controls glare and lateral light spill. Check coral response and the illuminated footprint after installation.
- White version: Redirects more wide-angle light toward the aquarium. Measure PAR before reducing LED intensity.
- Make lighting changes gradually and monitor SPS, LPS and soft-coral response across different depths.
- Recheck PAR whenever the mounting height, intensity, spectrum, aquascape or shade version changes.
7. Removal
- Grip the shade evenly and pull it straight away from the fixture with controlled pressure.
- Do not twist sharply or lever against the light housing.
- Place the shade on a clean surface away from the aquarium, with the magnetic contact points protected from debris.
8. Care & Inspection
- Clean the shade with a wet or damp soft cloth, then dry it before refitting.
- Remove accumulated salt spray before it forms a hard deposit.
- Do not use abrasive pads that may mark the reflective white or satin black finish.
- Periodically inspect the printed body and confirm that all magnets remain completely enclosed.
- Remove the shade from service if it becomes cracked, distorted, loose, or shows exposed magnetic material.
9. Installation Checklist

- Fixture contact area clean and dry before fitting
- Magnets fully enclosed and shade undamaged
- All magnetic points seated and shade level
- No interference with cables, mount, aquarium rim or water surface
